Midwest earthquake felt in Ann Arbor area
The quake was centered 6 miles of West Salem, Ill., and 66 miles from Evansville, Ind. It was felt in such distant cities as Chicago, Cincinnati and Milwaukee, 350 miles north of the epicenter, but there were no reports of injuries or significant damage.
The quake shook skyscrapers in Chicago’s Loop, 240 miles north of the epicenter, and in downtown Indianapolis, about 160 miles northeast of it. Residents of Cincinnati and St. Louis also reported feeling the earth shake.
The intensity, which is a measure of how much people might feel the earthquake far away from its epicenter, was not very strong here, said Larry Ruff, a University of Michigan geology professor.
“There’s a lot of ‘felt’ reports in southern Michigan from the Grand Rapids area all the way across to Detroit,” Ruff said. “The intensity was probably a 1 or a 2. People felt slight shaking, maybe their dishes were rattling.”
People in tall buildings are the most likely to feel earthquakes like these, Ruff said.
During one of the last earthquakes felt in Michigan, with an epicenter just outside of Lansing, the people who felt the earthquake the strongest were located closest to the less densely packed earth near the Grand River, he said.
Three residents on Ann Arbor’s north side called city police today to report the tremor shortly after 5:30 a.m., said Sgt. Lyle Sartori. No injuries or damage were reported to police.

She’s like the class whore, man. All the football team secretly loves her ’cause they can get their jollies, but she won’t be invited to the prom.
We need one of those quizzes. “Guess which quotes are from Coulter and which ones are from Hitler.”Godwin, blah, blah. Jews don’t need to be perfected. They need to be protected from Christians.
Take a look at the comments she receives on the blog. Many are from the core of the GOP’s side. We all like to argue that she has lost all credibility. She once used an analogy involving cockroaches to describe Mexicans and the immigration problem. She knows exactly what she is doing, her fans love it, the “moderates” that claim she is extreme and we should ignore her are giddy inside because she may be the only thing in conservative politics that is ’succeeding’ right now. You’ll even hear people say “Don’t give her attention, that is what she wants”. As if that is going to stop her conservative die-hards and racists and bigots that love eating up her hate-filled books. The issue at hand is ‘what does she think’, how are people responding to the issues, and what are you going to do about it?Unlike the “ignore her and she’ll go away” crowd, I sincerely believe that even if she feeds on everyone’s hate for her, our hate must not go on def ears. People should know that it is wrong for her to say the things she does, otherwise her voice goes unchallenged and her statements stand… and they are very loud ones!
we don’t hear much about her up here, but from what I hear, she’s as looney tunes as they come
She is to be ignored. Whether she’s evil, crazy, or just trying to market herself by being extreme, ignoring her takes away all of her capabilities.
“There is but one Church in which men find salvation, just as outside the ark of Noah it was not possible for anyone to be saved.” –Thomas Aquinas
I can see him saying more and more ridiculous things, that he would normally say as part of his act, having her agree, and then just kind of pushing it farther and farther.
