A see of green in downtown Roanoke Saturday. as hundreds gathered for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. Many made it a point to come out and honor their heritage.
It was all things Irish Saturday– as hundreds lined the streets in honor of ole Saint Patrick.
“He was a man of goodness. We always believe in the blessings he taught and we try to share them and pass them along,” said Sandra Ayers.
Traditionally, St. Patrick's Day was a religious holiday, a time for family gatherings and to honor the patron saint for bringing Christianity to Ireland.
“My grandmother was Irish. We're all into it. That's where all this comes from cuz she was always green, everything was green,” said Angela Daniel.
And as this familiar tune saturated the streets of downtown Roanoke, many of the region's local Irish found themselves reminiscing over their roots.
“If we didn't come out dressed in green. I think our anscestors ghosts' would come out and haunt us,” said Ayers.
“Nothing would have stopped me from this–we've planned this for months,” said Karen Cruise.
“I love irish. I like Irish. I like the parade, very nice, bringing my grandkids,” said Jerry Rice.

Americans aren’t telling the pubs across the Big Pond to invest in a little something we like to call refrigeration, so please let us delude ourselves into enjoying what we think is the holiday with weak green-dyed beer and the odd parade or two. kthxbai

If you look under the bridge, the river seems to be a darker colour in the background, if this isn’t shopped, it’s at least ‘enhanced’

Not shopped. They do it every year. Lasts a few weeks. That is one of those rivers you DO NOT want to swim in.
