Singing, dancing, light sparring flavor St. Patrick's Day breakfast
A longtime staple of Boston politics, the annual St. Patrick’s Day breakfast yesterday morning in South Boston featured all the usual flourishes and frivolity. Singalongs to traditional Irish tunes such as “Molly Malone” and “The West’s Asleep.” Step-dancing to lively reels. Heartfelt tributes to the strength and spirit of the Irish people.

And, of course, the comedic stylings of city and state political leaders, who jabbed and jousted, in word and song, over public policy and personal foibles before an audience of several hundred people at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
“We are all one big, happy dysfunctional family here,” remarked state Senator Jack Hart, who emceed the event.
Highlighting the 2 1/2-hour event was a two-song performance by the Dropkick Murphys and some lighthearted back and forth between Governor Deval Patrick and House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi, who have clashed in public recently over whether to build resort casinos in Massachusetts.
