Bracketology 101: How to make picks

ncaa picks

BY ADAM HIMMELSBACH
If you’re reading this while sitting in your office, chances are you’ve already heard the words “upset,” “seeds” and “Sweet 16,” and they had nothing to do with your daughter crying about getting a potted plant for her 16th birthday.
And if you’re reading this while sitting in your office, chances are someone has spent most of the day at the copy machine, not-so-discreetly photocopying stacks of NCAA tournament brackets.
Yes, March Madness is here, and you might as well join in (strictly for fun, of course).
What? You don’t know anything about college basketball?
Don’t worry, because neither does the guy who wears Duke shoelaces and has a mini-hoop over his garbage can.
Correctly filling out a bracket requires heaps of luck, as well as some basic knowledge. But that knowledge has more to do with numbers than sports. In the NCAA tournament, teams with low numbers in front of their names are generally good, and teams with high numbers in front of their names are generally not as good.
But sometimes it can be fun to blaze a unique trail.
I’ve heard so many people pick winners based on team mascots. One co-worker said she picked based on which mascot she liked better.

Only if you don’t use the “l33t” translation (in prefs). If you do, the only subreddit in the subreddits list is leet.reddit.com, and search finds nothing.(Edit) Downmodders: please explain what’s wrong with my comment.

  2. Terrance says on :

From now on, I’m going to vote them all up to negate your vote.

No problem. I was having a bad day/night yesterday and looking back on it, this page could have done without my smartass comment too. I apologize for taking my frustrations out on you. I hate when others do it to me, so that was wrong. Hope you have a good day wherever you’re at and on these boards :).

Every few hours, I find a reason to make a pointless reddit submission… nobody is forcing you to stay here.

  8. Antony says on :

You had to have seen those downvotes coming.

  9. Driscoll says on :

people saving their karma probably, from the results of rampant downmodding.

cojoco is right, you are a dickhead. Or rather your behavior is a bit dickheadish. But who’s to say that it’s wrong? It’s your down arrow and you can use it how you like. Personally I downvote all the submissions in the new queue that aren’t about programming in C++ or cables being cut. I just don’t wanna see any of that other shit. Just give me the C++ and cables being cut stuff.

  11. Pauleen says on :

we need a new column header: unhot.

  12. Hedley says on :

I do the same on this one but obviously he has some sort of racket going on and it does nothing.

  13. Gene says on :

    You fabulous bastard.

  14. Kameron says on :

Whoa, didn’t you just get 100k karma recently? How the crap did you get 10k more so fast??
