St. Pat's Day no excuse to get sloppy drunk
Everybody’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, but the celebrations are becoming more about the alcohol content in a person’s blood rather than national pride.
Pittsburgh Irish have been marching since 1869 to celebrate the patron saint of Ireland and to keep their culture alive with music, food and drinks. The city’s first parade was so modest that it had to halt as delivery wagons unloaded supplies to a local business, according to the parade’s Web site.
These days, the parade shuts down the streets on its route as up to 250,000 people come Downtown to watch floats, Miss Smiling Irish Eyes, bagpipers, clowns, step dancers and other participants. Unfortunately, it’s the revelers who come dressed in clothes small enough to fit a leprechaun to collect green beads and those who chug yards of green beer who have become the spectacle of the day.
Pittsburgh’s parade always has been on a Saturday so families can enjoy the festivities, but the scheduling also is convenient for those who see St. Patrick’s Day as an excuse to get out of hand. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced Tuesday that more police will be patrolling the parade and other party spots this year, and the time frame for open drinking in Market Square has been reduced, but the parties are sure to go on.

Here is the article Paul refered to. (and the graph itself) He has a point, that when adjueted for inflation (i.e. gold standard) we already were paying $100/brl 30 years ago.
I was 10, I think, and I watched every one all the way through. Of course, all I remember now is a lot of graphs and him raising the voodoo stick to rid us of the curse of voodoo economics.
Paul does not want to abolish public schools.”how can we abolish public schools and still be innovative and competent?”We can only be innovative and competent BY abolishing public schools IMO. The public school system is underperforming because you can’t toss out bad students while good students languish from teachers who are promoted based on seniority more than performance. Why do you think private schools are the most competitive? It isn’t just cash, because Washington, D.C. schools get about $14,000 per student and they are among the worst performing in the country.I would strongly like to hear you state a single reason why not to vote for Ron Paul.
HAHA! That’s great. NWS stock is still dropping.
Your memory is right. After those spots, Perot was edging for the lead. They were on the three major networks though, if my memory serves, and were huge news.”Billionaire pays for prime time TV!! Tune in at 8″
He did a half hour slot in Iowa outlining all the issues, so I can see it easily expanded. I think a lot of Paul’s ideas are not easy to understand by a 30-second platitude.
I’m coo coo for cocoa puffs.
No. It works for me.
