And U2 doesn’t really count here because they haven’t realeased anything good in over 20 years.

It isn’t that current music sucks, its that good music doesn’t get popular anymore. Theres a ton of good new music out there if you take the time to find it.

    last.fm to the rescue

Abbey Road and the white album are better than Sgt. Pepper IMO..

Pandora has been a godsend for me. I really haven’t had my ear to the ground for interesting music the way I did 10 or 15 years ago, and my collection had started to stagnate. I’ve now found at least 10 bands that I love that I probably wouldn’t have found otherwise.

I don’t hate the genre, I just wonder if anyone* cares.*other than the poster, of course

The fact you only listen to Britney and Gareth Gates is your own fault

From the past 20 years of music the only music you can remember is silly pop-tarts

In the studio trying to make an album that Americans won’t like.

The name of the game has always been “What crap can we pump out that gets the highest numbers?” The difference is in what you said, but also the case of the disappearing DJ. DJs used to not only be a personality, but they decided the programming. No one does this anymore. That said, real, unique gems tend to bubble up to the surface still. I don’t think you can make the case that something like Radiohead’s OK Computer doesn’t belong on this list. There’s a ton of bands that are still playing that deserve to be placed in this kind of company. What about some of Outkast’s music? What about Wilco? What about those people who did the Once music? There’s a lot of recent albums I’d put above The Joshua Tree and Thriller — even above Sgt. Pepper’s.Sure the market is made up of carbon copy bands, but demonic corporate forces haven’t destroyed good music yet. It’s just rare to hear it on air anymore.

Or maybe the general public’s taste in music sucks?

  12. Chante says on :

Sure, Thriller stands up alongside those albums, definitely. I don’t know if I’d put it ABOVE all of them, but it’s in good company with them, certainly not to be discounted just because the style is not your cup of tea.
